Teaching Philosophy
I firmly believe that children are exceptionally bright and capable, and that music education helps them become the best version of themselves. From developing fine motor skills at a young age to learning discipline and perseverance, music shapes children into confident and capable adults.
Proper technique and ergonomics from an early age are crucial for beautiful musicianship and long-term playing. From the very beginning, I emphasize posture, foot placement, bow hold, and other foundational aspects. Excellent technique leads to beautiful musicality, and I require students to practice scales, arpeggios, and eventually double stops. Each student starts their practice with a scale, as we do in our lessons. Additionally, I provide etudes and pieces to work on to ensure a well-rounded musical education.
It is essential for students to learn to love music and recognize it as a blessing. This doesn’t mean it won’t be hard or frustrating, but the most challenging things can also bring the most joy. Using music to help others is where I find the most fulfillment as a musician, and I hope my students learn the same. I strive to understand each student’s learning style and create a student-led lesson plan where we work together to find what works best.
When students, parents, and teachers work together with consistency, open-mindedness, and a willingness to face challenges, children can grow into not only beautiful musicians but also incredible individuals.

I accept students starting at age four all the way up to adult students!

I am a Suzuki certified teacher and use the Suzuki repertoire books as well as the 'I Can Read Music' for beginner music reading. As students progress I add 'Solos for Young Cellists' by Carey Cheney for supplemental pieces and Rick Mooney's 'Position Pieces for Cello' for shifting practice. I also have other supplemental materials that I will provide for students as needed.

For young beginners, I require a parent or caregiver be present at all lessons. I have seen firsthand how a parent's involvement in practicing at home accelerates a child's learning, while strengthening the parent and child relationship. I expect that the student comes to the lesson practiced and prepared and reserve the right to terminate lessons if I feel that the student is not preparing for lessons.

I offer 30, 45 minute and hour lessons depending on the age and skill level of the student.

I charge students on the first of each month and take payment through Zelle or check. Last minute cancellations (within 24 hours) will not be refunded. If I need to cancel a lesson last minute for any reason I will either issue a refund or schedule a makeup lesson at a time that works for both of us.
